Today We’re Talking About Biofeedback
Biofeedback is essentially how your body talks to you. One of the most catastrophic parts about having food issues—whether it's disordered eating, a history of yo-yo dieting, or trying to control your body—is that these strategies disconnect us from our body’s natural signals. When we engage in these behaviors to control our body, we stop listening to it.
This disconnect creates a gap between our brain and our body, leading us to use food (or the lack thereof) to morph our body into what we want it to be, instead of what it needs to be.
Reconnecting with our body's biofeedback can help us make empowered and intuitive choices that support our well-being.
Questions to Ask Yourself
Here are some questions to help you tune into your body’s biofeedback:
How do I feel physically?
Am I experiencing any discomfort, pain, or tension?
Do I feel energetic, tired, or somewhere in between?
How do I feel emotionally?
Am I feeling stressed, anxious, happy, or calm?
Are there any emotions that seem to be affecting my physical state?
What is my hunger level?
Am I actually hungry, or am I eating out of habit, boredom, or emotion?
On a scale of 1 to 10, how hungry am I before and after eating?
How satisfied do I feel after eating?
Did I eat enough to feel comfortably full but not overly stuffed?
Was the meal satisfying in terms of taste, texture, and variety?
How does my digestion feel?
Am I experiencing any bloating, gas, or discomfort after meals?
How regular are my bowel movements?
What is my energy level throughout the day?

takeaway
Taking care of your mental and physical health requires a proactive approach, much like maintaining a car. You wouldn't ignore your car's check engine light; similarly, don't ignore your body's signals.
By tuning into your biofeedback, you can make empowered choices that nourish your body and mind, leading to a more balanced and fulfilling life.
